REVIEW

Medium ruby color. Nose has an earthy character of red fruit - raspberry, strawberry, and redcurrant. It’s not very intense - like it’s covered with a layer of earth, but has some freshness. Air takes away the earthy layer and allows red fruit come forward in a pretty elegant way. The palate is quite earthy with tannins that need some softening (give them 2-3 years) and juicy red fruit somewhere in the background. Low-to-mid acidity. Slight redcurrant aftertaste with a touch of red fruit mix. It can feel quite heavy on the palate, but forunately the strong tannins don’t last that long. Nice one with some complexity to it.

THE WINE

Nitria is the Slovakian deep cut for anyone who finds mainstream grapes a bit too predictable. It is a total fringe variety bred by the legendary Dorota Pospíšilová. This scientific mashup of Castets and Abouriou is a rare find.
