HOW IT ALL STARTED
HOW IT ALL STARTED
I’m from a little European country called Slovakia. Since I was 14, my dream was to move to the US and build a huge company. At 16, I started helping a super successful Czech-American entrepreneur, and when I was 18 I took a few days off from high school - which I barely finished - and went to the US to open a bank account for my newly formed American marketing company. Otherwise it was all remote, and it was a total disaster. Then I started more projects than average people even thought about starting, and crashed all of them. Like, every single one. I was also helping to kick off a few other projects, and that worked a bit. Fast forward a couple of years, now I help venture capital-backed startups with marketing. But I always loved building things. So I had an idea about the berry characters, and I went for it.
If you're in for a read, here’s my CV - it’s a fun, but very long story.
And finally, me and wine. My uncle is a Catholic priest who decided he’s going to make wine - and now he’s crushing local wine competitions. He has a vineyard in Strekov (which could sound familiar if you’re a natural wine enthusiast). I come to help him from time to time in the vineyard or in a tasting, and it really helps to be so close to the whole process - otherwise it’s very difficult to imagine and appreciate how the grapes are made into wine, and everything that goes with it. He has good friends and access to some great bottles, so that’s how I came to like wine. I started when I was 14 - I always liked a head start. Then, my high school buddy’s dad is a hockey scout for the NHL team, travels a lot, and helps Slovakian & Czech winemakers make it into Scandinavian countries. He’s a very inspiring figure who helped me to look at the wine from a new perspective, and we tasted a glass or two or three or four together. Btw, he has great bottles, too. And I learned something by myself as well. So there you go.
