REVIEW
Medium garnet color. Red fruit on the nose. Red cherry and fresh orange combo with a violet touch in a very elegant smell early on, but it’s gone pretty quickly and turns into roasted tomato with more air. Mid acidity with high tannins that lack better integration. Violet on the dry palate early on, but it’s quickly taken over by tannins and acidity that don’t allow any other aromas to flourish. Only oregano manages to get some presence in the palate background. Still young and will get better in a couple of years.

THE WINERY
Cantina 8380 is a brave little wine laboratory run by brothers Iacopo and Filippo Rossi. The name comes from smashing their birth years, 1983 and 1980, together. It is peak sibling energy. Based in Manciano, they focus on artisanal Maremma hits like Morellino di Scansano and Syrah. They are located right by the Saturnia thermal springs, so you can go from a sulfur soak to a Sangiovese sip in five minutes flat.

THE WINE
After a stainless steel start, these grapes took a 12 month nap in large barrels and another 10 months back in steel just to stay chill. The vines were kept intentionally uncrowded, producing only a small amount of high-quality fruit harvested late in the season. This red basically finished a two-year training camp before it was allowed to leave the cellar. It is patient, precise, and definitely not in a rush.
