A scented beacon rising from the misty riverbanks of Portugal to guide your senses. While others whisper, I shout with perfumes of bay leaf and citrus, leading you straight to the heart of the Minho region.

I'm refreshing

I'm floral

You'll adore me because I don't believe in subtlety when it comes to perfume. I'm the life of the party, bursting with intoxicating scents of laurel and spring flowers. My zest for life is contagious, offering a refreshing, crisp acidity that wakes up your palate. I'm uncomplicated joy in a glass, perfect for sunny afternoons or whenever you need a fragrant pick-me-up.

Why maybe not

I'm perfumed

I'm acidic

I'm light

Some folks find my personality a bit too loud. If you prefer shy, retiring types or heavy, brooding reds, I might overwhelm your senses with my floral exuberance. My acidity is sharp, like a splash of cold river water, which isn't everyone's cup of tea. If you're looking for oaky richness or high alcohol to knock you out, look elsewhere.

Lean in close and let the bouquet hit you. You can't miss the distinct note of laurel-it is my namesake, after all-mingled with zesty lime and soft orange blossom. On the palate, expect a linear, refreshing crunch that cleanses the mouth. I'm rarely heavy, preferring to dance lightly across your tongue with a mineral edge that speaks of my granite soils.

MY LIFE STORIES

The Scent of the River

The Scent of the River

The Scent of the River

I was born in the lush, green valleys of northern Portugal, specifically along the banks of the Lima River. My creators looked at my scent profile and immediately thought of the bay tree, or "loureiro" in Portuguese. It was a perfect fit. Since ancient times, I've been the aromatic prince of the Minho, thriving in the damp, cool climate that would make other vines shiver and rot. I soaked up the Atlantic rains and turned them into liquid gold, establishing myself as the standard-bearer for white wines in a region famous for its verdant landscapes.

Crossing Borders

While I rule the roost in the Lima sub-region of Vinho Verde, I'm a traveler at heart. I crossed the river into Spanish Galicia, where they call me Loureira. There, I often play a supporting role, adding my signature perfume to blends with my cousins Albariño and Treixadura. I'm the secret weapon in those bottles, the one adding that top note of blossom and spice. It is a humble existence compared to my solo career in Portugal, but I enjoy the camaraderie. Being part of a team allows me to show off my aromatics without having to carry the entire structure of the wine on my own.

For a long time, people just threw me into field blends, confusing me with others or using me just to bulk up the volume. How rude. But in recent decades, winemakers finally woke up and realized my true potential as a solo artist. Now, you will find me bottled all by myself, proudly displaying my name on the label. I've moved past the fizzy, overly sweet styles of the past to become a serious, dry, and mineral-driven wine. I'm finally getting the respect I deserve as one of the Iberian Peninsula's most distinctive and fragrant souls.
